Brain Injury and Mental Health – A Visual Processing Perspective

Dr. Doug Villella, OD is a local Optometrist who has been practicing since he received his optometry degree at the Pennsylvania College of Optometry in 1987. Dr. Villella His specialty interests are treating children who have vision-related learning problems, patients who have suffered traumatic brain injury and patients who experience vision-related dizziness and imbalance symptoms.

In this talk Dr. Villella will discuss the correlation between traumatic brain injury and recurring mental illness. If you have a patient who is experiencing anxiety, depression, irritability or mood swings as a result of a brain injury- concussion, brain surgery or stroke- it is very likely a component of their condition is an undiagnosed multi-sensory integration dysfunction. Many patients and their providers are unaware of the connection between their injury and their chronic mental health issues.
