Erie Wellness Night

We are excited to have participated in the Erie Wellness Network’s Wellness Night! It was a great evening of wellness practitioners, good friends, and most importantly – new faces at Thrive!

Although we registered to host at Thrive just days before the deadline, there were still several practitioners looking for a location! We were fortunate to be able to partner with them and use Thrive as a gathering place. We were happy to welcome Purrista Cat Cafe, Mindfulness with a Purpose, an Ayurvedic Health Counselor, Single Mom Life and Wellness 360. Thank you all for a great night and sharing your knowledge with us!

Thrive was created as a facilitator to enhance Erie’s mental health practitioner community – to give us all a support system, a learning network and room to grow professionally – in addition to providing a location to see clients and host events. While this is still our main focus, we also want to be contributing to the whole of the Erie Community – other wellness practitioners, our referral network, our client network AND every other person in the community. As our founder once said, “Thriving therapist help their clients to thrive, and thriving individuals help their community to thrive.”

Thrive Update #6

Good Afternoon!

IT’S FINALLY HERE: We LAUNCH on Tuesday, September 3rd, 2019!
WOW, we’re thrilled! SO MANY people and organizations have helped us and we appreciate every bit of help we’ve received.

And, we’re planning a PARTY!!! Our GRAND OPENING CELEBRATION will be Friday, October 11th, 2019 from 4:30-6:30pm. Please join us for this happy event!

Here’s what we’ve been up to:

  • Founding Members – Thank you to our 13 Founding Members for believing in our vision! Everyone is listed on our website! It’s not too late to be a Founding Member and to receive our discounted membership

  • $$$ – We’re using STRIPE to collect the monthly membership dues and it’s working!! It was THRILLING last week to have money coming in to Thrive’s bank account! Wooo hooo!

  • Website – Our website is up and running! Thank you, Eliza Porter, for going in with little experience and producing a beautiful and functional site. Please check it out HERE!

  • Behind the scenes – We finalized the member agreement (contract), purchased business insurance, and started using TEAMUP to book therapy rooms at Thrive.

  • Saving $$ – We’re launching Thrive on a budget. Our founder and her husband kicked in some startup funds and decided against taking out a loan. Though the furniture is gently used, we don’t have a large monthly loan payment to burden the cash flow. Plus, members have donated time, furniture and other supplies to help us get ready!

  • Furnishing, Decorating and Work Parties – The offices have been cleaned, furnished, decorated and beautified for our members! THANK YOU TO EVERYONE WHO CAME TO OUR WORK PARTIES!!!

Here’s what we’re working on now:

  • More Founding Members – There’s still space for more Founding Members. Tell your therapist friends about Thrive!
  • Crowdfunding Effort – We’ve initiated work with the Idea Fund of Erie & QuickStarters through Mercyhurst University to plan and implement a crowdfunding strategy! Stay tuned for our launch (expected to be in the next month or so) and be a part of the ‘coworking for therapists’ movement in Erie!
  • Grand Opening Celebration – Mark your calendar for Friday, October 11, 2019 from 4:30-6:30pm. Although we are officially opening our doors next week, we’re taking our time to spread the word and plan a celebratory event! We hope you (and your friends & family) will join us to celebrate the beginning of a great asset to the Erie community!
  • Sponsorship Opportunity – We’ll be looking for a few businesses to sponsor our Grand Opening Celebration. Contact Penny at (814) 746-4307 if you’d like to sponsor.
  • Clients – On our first day of business (next Tuesday!) we will be seeing clients at Thrive! If you are looking for a Therapist to see, check out our practicing therapists HERE!

We cannot express enough how much your interest in Thrive (and the wonderful community of therapists we are building) means to us! This is our sixth Thrive update – if you have missed out on the previous updates, find them HERE!

If you have any questions, or would like to get more information about Thrive, please get in touch with Penny at ThriveTherapySpace@gmail.com.

Thrive Update #4

Welcome to our 4th Update! We’ve been very busy! Here’s what we’ve done in the past few weeks:

  • Survey Results – Over 40 responses to the survey we sent out! Responses were from psychologists, as well as LMFTs, LPCs, LCSWs, and LSWs. 100% feel Erie would benefit by having a more developed community of therapists. The responses are helping us with Pricing, the Downtown vs Millcreek decision, and the favorite Lunch & Learn topics!
  • Founding Members – Several therapists have verbally committed to being founding members of Thrive! We are so pleased to have their support and to be working with them, plus they get a lower rate! We have room for more Founding Members – if you are interested, please get in touch with Penny Mechley-Porter asap!
  • Location – We love the suite we found at Modern Tool! We’re pursuing quotes from architects and contractors to rebuild a portion of the space, (BUT we still have our eyes open for other suites), in case the rebuild at Modern Tool is ultimately too expensive.

Our focus in the coming weeks:

  • Logo & Website – Coming soon: the official Thrive Therapy Space logo, a new website, and expanded social media! Thank you Gannon SBDC for your amazing work.
  • Growing Community – PLEASE JOIN US!!!Calling all interested psychotherapists for our FINAL general information sessions at Radius Co.Work (1001 State Street, 9th floor):
    • Friday June 7th – 5pm to 7pm
    • Saturday June 8th – 10am to 12pm
  • Location Decisions – Will the Modern Tool Suite ultimately be within our budget (it requires a build-out)? Or will we end up at a different, ready-to-go suite? Stay Tuned!
  • Seeking Founding Members – We’ve had a great deal of interest from local therapists, now it’s time to change the interest into commitments!
    • Will you become a Founding Community Member? With access to the Therapist Community Room, a GREAT community, case consultations, Lunch & Learns, discounted CEUs and more.
    • Or, possibly, a Founding Therapy Office Member?  Includes Founding Community Member benefits plus access to the Therapy Offices so you can practice at Thrive.
  • Signing LOIs – Thrive’s official “Letter of Intent” is ready to be signed by the Founding Members! These Letters of Intent are key to our planning and to any loan we apply for.
  • Founders Day Event –Coming soon: We’ll gather a group to sign the Letters of Intent, and inaugurate each signer as a Founding Member!
  • Pursuing a Grant – We are working to finalize the Thrive Business Plan to be able to apply for the Erie Flagship Grant of $5,000 that opens on June 1st!

How you can help!

  • Potential Location – Let us know if there’s a suite we should look at: 3 to 5 offices, a waiting room, and a larger space for the Therapist Community Room (hopefully with it’s own entrance). Max of 2,000 sq ft.
  • Share – Please forward this email to any therapists you know!
  • Discuss Thrive  – Talk about Thrive Therapy Space!!

Thank you for taking an interest in Thrive Therapy Space and the wonderful community of therapists we are building.

This is our fourth Thrive update – if you have missed out on the previous updates, find them HERE!

Thrive Update #3

Thank you for your interest in Thrive! Here are some highlights from the past few weeks:

  • Strengthening Community – We’ve hosted several “get-to-know Thrive” events and they’ve been a great tool in the development of Thrive! The conversations and feedback are key in our planning, and have prompted great discussions already. Sean Fedorko, tour guide extraordinaire, provided a tour of Radius Co.Work, Erie’s first coworking space. We have more of these events coming up in May (see below).

Check out our first event!

  • Business Planning – Penny continues to meet with Gannon’s Small Business Development Center (SBDC). They have been instrumental in looking at the fine details and guiding us through this journey.
  • Picking a Location – We have signed an Option to Lease for a suite in the Modern Tool building in Downtown Erie. We now have 3 months to work out details and potentially sign a lease. During this time it is key to solidify the core community for Thrive!

What we are working on now:

  • Founding Members – We’re gathering a list of local therapists who want to be Founding Members of Thrive. They’ll get immediate and long term membership discounts, and they’ll have a big voice in Thrive’s development. Let me know if you want to be a Founding Member!
  • Website Development – Gannon’s SBDC is helping us to create a more professional website (www.ThriveTherapySpace.com) and to develop a logo for Thrive! Stay tuned for those changes!
  • Growing Community – PLEASE JOIN US!!!
    • We have more get-to-know Thrive events scheduled at Radius Co.Work (1001 State Street, 9th floor):
      • Friday May 17th – 5pm to 7pm
      • Saturday May 18th – 10am to 12pm
    • We are also building community for Thrive by hosting Work Sprints every Friday from 1pm to 4pm at Ember+Forge in Downton Erie

For more information about upcoming events, click HERE.

  • Researching Potential Funding Sources – We are still researching two possibilities:
    • Erie’s  $5,000 Flagship Fund grant
    • A low interest loan from the city to help with build out costs
  • Working with a Contractor & Architect – The office space we have tentatively leased has 5 great offices but walls must be moved to create “The Commons” (the therapist community room) and a client waiting room.

Thank you for taking an interest in Thrive Therapy Space and the wonderful community of therapists we are building.

This is our third Thrive update email – if you have missed out on the previous emails, find them HERE!

If you have any questions, or would like to get more information about Thrive, please reply to this email and I will be happy to get back to you.

Thrive Update #2

It’s been a busy few weeks with Thrive Therapy Space! Here is what we have been working on:

  • Creating Community
    • We hosted our first open house, shared food and drink, and talked about Thrive! The conversations and feedback are key in our planning. Sean Fedorko, tour guide extraordinaire, provided a tour of Radius Co.Work, Erie’s first coworking space. Next open house is on 4/27 (see below).
    • Penny attended the “Gathering Summit,”  an online conference, and learned so much more about the importance of “gathering” and “community” in our disconnected and panicked lives.
  • Becoming an LLC  – Thrive Therapy Space is now a registered Pennsylvania LLC!
  • Picking a Location – We like a space in downtown Erie and are moving towards a lease.
  • Surveying – 34 responses so far!! We created a survey and sent it to local therapists. People responded! They learned more about what Thrive hopes to offer and we learned more about which benefits of Thrive therapists most want! Plus, they let us know what they think of our pricing. If you haven’t taken the survey yet, please click HERE!
  • Establishing a Website – ThriveTherapySpace.com! It’s very basic, but ok for now. Check it out!

What’s next:

  • Growing Community
    • We’ve scheduled two Work Sprints* at Ember+Forge Coffee Shop on Friday April 19th and Friday April 26th, both from 1pm to 4pm. Calling all therapists to join us if you’ve been procrastinating on something! Learn more HERE
    • Our second Open House, also at Radius Co.Work (1001 State St., 9th floor) is scheduled for Saturday April 27th, from 10am to 2pm. Learn more HERE
  • Researching Potential Funding Sources – We are researching two possibilities:
    • Erie’s  $5,000 Flagship Fund grant
    • A low interest loan from the city to help with build out costs
  • Leasing a Space – We hope to sign an ‘option’ soon. (This would give us 3 months to build community and identify therapists who want to be a part of Thrive. At the end of 3 months, Penny would formally lease the space, knowing there is a core group of therapists who want to join Thrive.)
  • Finding a Contractor & Architect – The office space we’re honing in on has 5 great offices but walls must be moved to create “The Commons” (the therapist community room) and a client waiting room.

*What is a work sprint? A work sprint is a set period of time during which all participants focus on their own task or goal. It is an accountability tool – everyone works hard because they’re with other hard workers! Work sprints are common in coworking communities.

Thank you for taking an interest in Thrive Therapy Space and the wonderful community of therapists we are building.

If you have any questions, or would like to get more information about Thrive, please email me at ThriveTherapySpace@gmail.com and I will be happy to get back to you.

Remember to heal, grow and thrive.

Thrive Update #1

I’ve been working steadily on this concept, a coworking space designed specifically  for therapists! I’ll be sending out this bi-weekly email to let you know what’s happening. This is what I’ve been up to:

  • Creating community—The most important thing moving forward! I have met individually with 15 therapists and will meet with more. In April, I’ll start to host informal gatherings where therapists can meet me & each other as well as ask questions & convey their ideas.
  • Scouting a location—The current front runner is: downtown on State St. The old Erie Book Store is in 2nd place, but, sadly, the space is just too big.
  • Checking my numbers—Finding professionals who can look over my projections and help me get this right!
  • Researching other coworking spaces—I love these spaces: BoulderHealingHub.com and SomaVida.net   They are larger than Thrive will be, but they have the feel we want!! Thrive will have 5 or 6 offices, a waiting room, and a Therapist Community Room. No current plans for a yoga studio or to include other (non psychotherapist) healing professionals, but who knows what will happen in the future!
  • A 9-Week business class—Called Co.Starters. The class just ended last Monday and it was VERY worthwhile. I know more about starting a business and I have many more connections with professionals who can help.
  • Social media—Our domain name is ThriveTherapySpace.com (no website, yet) and we sent this email out via our new email address.

What I’ll focus on next:

  • Building community— Meet me and other interested therapists at Radius CoWork! Mark your calendar for Friday April 12th – 5pm to 7pm and/or Saturday April 27th – 10am to 12pm. Details to follow!
  • Developing a survey—to send to YOU and to other psychotherapists in the area. I want to know your ideas and run my ideas by you. Also, I’ll want your feedback on location, pricing tiers and more.
  • Checking with insurance companies—We’ll need to know if there’s  a maximum number of therapists per location or zip code. Some therapists have expressed concerns about this.
  • Website—Build a basic website ASAP.

You can help by forwarding this to your therapist friends!

I’m honored to be sharing this journey with you and excited at how Thrive is going to take shape over the coming months. I will keep you updated on my progress and if you have any questions or suggestions at any time, please get in touch!

Remember to heal, grow and thrive.
